CLASS DESCRIPTION

Overview:  The new 2019 Edition of NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, was published by NFPA in August 2018 and is not yet effective in many states. In the state of CA, this code will be effective on January 1st, 2020 when the new 2019 edition of the California Building Code (CBC-2019) will become the applicable state code. In other states or jurisdictions, NFPA 72-2019 will become effective based on the specific jurisdiction’s code adoption procedure. Many significant revisions to the previous NFPA-72 2016 edition have been made which will affect the design, installation, inspection and enforcement procedures of new fire alarm systems.
This class will identify, discuss and clarify only the NEW code changes between the 2016 and the current 2019 Edition of NFPA 72. It is not the intent of this class to cover the entire NFPA 72 code requirements, rather, this class is specifically designed to focus on the NEW changes between the previous 2016 Edition and the current 2019 Edition. The NEW changes will be presented and discussed on a chapter-by-chapter basis.
Current IBC-2015 and CBC-2016, will be used to demonstrate building code requirements for fire alarm systems in different type buildings/occupancies.

Future Editions of IBC-2018, CBC-2019, will be discussed.
